If County Wicklow is the ‘garden of Ireland’ than its county town must be its prize flower. A charming, unassuming village, it is dominated by its harbour and lovely beaches.

The Regatta Festival is held every August to great acclaim. Recommended historic sights include the Wicklow gaol (active as late as 1924) and the Black Castle ruin, which highlights the town’s Viking past. The town also boasts an impressive range of nightspots and eateries all set along its narrow, winding streets and if you run out of places to try out the busy, thriving town of Bray is not far away.

Golf clubs in Wicklow include Arklow Golf Links and Charlesland Golf Club
